DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

TUESDAY APRIL 7

3.57 PONTEFRACT

Not a race to hold a dogmatic view but all the same, a chance is taken on KYLIAN recapturing the winning theme at a track that should play into his strengths better than Southwell last time out.

Having his first outing for his new yard following a 181-day break, Robert Cowell’s inmate was understandably a shade rusty in the early stages over the minimum trip at a track that often serves the pacer types well, but he did catch the eye with the way he finished off the race to claim a spot just outside the placings late on.

Likely to be all the better for that initial outing, this listed winner over six furlongs last season now gets a chance to prove his true worth over a stiffer test and his combination of tactical speed and stamina to see out the trip well should see him a bigger player than his morning odds suggest.

KYLIAN – ½- point each-way@14-1 (four places)

6.00 SOUTHWELL

DELINQUENT shaped as seven furlongs was an insufficient test over today’s course last time out and he is strongly fancied to back up that view on his return to the Midland venue.

Gelded after three mildly promising efforts as a two-year-old, the son of Mehmas returned to action to face his first handicap off what appeared a reasonable starting point of 71 but after being shuffled back through the pack in the early stages, he could never land a meaningful blow at the main players.

However, he did finish his race off with a degree of purpose to suggest a brighter future could be in store post his operation and with the speed figure he achieved in defeat also by some way his best so far to date, heading back to the same track with an extra furlong to cover should elicit further improvement.

DELINQUENT – 1-point each-way@6-1 (three places)
