DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

SUNDAY APRIL 12

3.20 LEOPARDSTOWN

SYZYGY by some margin brings the best recent form to the party courtesy of her excellent effort in the Irish Lincoln and unless she takes an aversion to today’s track, the four-year-old rates a strong choice to revert back to winning ways.

Facing her toughest task to date at the Kildare track, she kept on well to finish a creditable third and with the time figure and subsequent form of many beaten horses suggesting the form is very strong, her effort in defeat deserves plenty of praise.

A lover of soft ground, she rattled off a quick-fire hat trick towards the backend of last season with conditions in her favour and looking like she has picked up where she left off on the evidence of her performance a month ago, the daughter of Cable Bay should find today’s slightly less choppy waters an opportunity worth exploiting.

SYZYGY – 1-point each-way@4-1 (five places)

4.25 LEOPARDSTOWN

As is always the case at this time of year, it is very difficult to know the level of fitness of the participants, especially fillies, and it would come as no surprise if this Group 3 for the fairer sex produced a turn up.

True Love, for instance, has to prove herself over the trip on ground she has yet to encounter, not to mention the potential issues from stall 15, and at the prices, she is well worth taking on for starters.

At least you know with Black Caviar Gold, she will stay the trip well and Composing is a proven C&D winner, but the value may lie with MAYFLOWER who hasn’t run since creating a favourable impression at the Dublin venue on her debut.

Stephen Thorpe’s filly wasn’t particularly heralded at the Dublin venue last July but she defied her position in the market with ease, coming from last to first in a short space of time to ultimately win going away.

She might not have beaten a great field, but the speed figure she posted was well above average for a race of its kind and even though today’s contest is a big step up in class, the data suggests she is no forlorn hope on her return to the scene of her impressive display.

MAYFLOWER – ½ point each-way@25-1 (four places)
