DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 23
2.45 LINGFIELD
STAR OF ALBION (best price 9-2) has done more than enough in his three races so far to date to suggest he can win plenty of races and off what appears a workable mark, Amanda Perrett’s inmate looks set to make an impact on nursery debut.
The Zoustar gelding ran a good deal better than the bare result suggested on his debut at Goodwood, finishing best of those drawn low, and it was a similar story at Windsor next time, again the draw (11 of 11) having a huge bearing on his final position.
Even allowing for his wide track position, his still managed to finish a close fourth behind two quality colts in the shape of Poatan (rated 97) and Division (likely to get something in the 90’s) and a repeat of that form alone would give him strong claims off his opening rating of 75.
Ironically, he threw away a potential good draw for once at Sandown last time by hanging left towards the unfavoured stands side rail and, as a result, he ended up getting his pocket picked by a rival who stayed in his lane.
Now racing left-handed and fitted with cheekpieces to hopefully correct any kinks in his head he may have, this sturdily built colt easily has enough pure ability to feature in a race of this nature.
STAR OF ALBION – 1-point each-way@9-2 (four places)
4.20 LISTOWEL
Some nice types in this rated race for two-year-olds and LIMESTONE (best price 5-2), one of two yet to get his head in front, has strong claims in his bid to make the breakthrough.
Joseph O’Brien’s colt made a pleasing start to his career when third to the potential very smart Benvenuto Cellini at Killarney and he managed to improve on that position by one place last time out at Tipperary, keeping on stoutly to chase home another highly touted Aidan O’Brien-trained juvenile.
Analysing the data from his latest encounter at the Limerick Junction venue, reveals the son of New Bay ran to a fair standard and with both Christmas Day and Utmost Good Faith going on to advertise the strength of the race in recent days, hope is high this promising colt to do the same.
LIMESTONE – 1-point win@5-2
