DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
WEDNESDAY JANUARY 7
3.35 LINGFIELD
WOODHAY WHISPER must be considered an unlucky loser based on the evidence to hand from her latest encounter over today’s C&D and although playing those eye-catchers on a regular basis can be a quick route to the poor house, a chance is taken on Jack Jones’ inmate bucking the trend.
All dressed up with nowhere to go rounding the home bend at the Surrey venue, the gaps didn’t appear until it was too late for the daughter of Coulsty and she ended up having to settle for yet another honourable placed effort next to her name.
The four-year-old suffered a similar fate on her previous outing over today’s C&D back in October when she flashed home to finish second and in the hope that events pan out a little more favourably on her return visit, she is a big enough price to combat the stress she imparts on her supporters.
WOODHAY WHISPER – 1-point each-way@4-1
6.30 KEMPTON
The best race on the card by some margin and the sight of Mount Athos adds some quality to proceedings but in the same breath, POPMASTER hasn’t got too much to find on his old rival and, at the prices, he rates the most viable each-way alternative.
Ed Walker’s inmate has been around the block more times than a tramp’s dog in races of this nature but despite being the oldest member of tonight’s party, he still retains all his enthusiasm.
Although he ran perfectly respectably at Southwell last time out, posting a decent speed figure in defeat, it is probably fair to say he enjoys tonight’s track better and his run behind Mount Athos here on his latest visit last March is testimony to that view.
Form figures of 11234 is the current tail of the tape at the Sunbury venue and given his current form, those impressive stats don’t look like ending any time soon.
POPMASTER – 1-point each-way@4-1
