DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
WEDNESDAY JANUARY 21
5.30 KEMPTON
WAISTCOAT produced some fancy data for the grade when scoring with any amount in hand at Chelmsford last time out and, having run well many times over today’s C&D in the past, Ross Burton’s gelding rates a strong choice to follow up.
Held up off the strong pace set by Ziggy’s Condor 10 days ago, the five-year-old was switched wide to make his challenge down the centre of the track and with a swooping move that carried by the entire field, he left his rivals trailing in his wake.
Looking at the numbers he posted at the Essex track, he not only ran the fastest overall time on the card, his final there furlong split of 34.5 was better than the one clocked by the 73-rated Gogi Yubari, who raced over a furlong shorter and with six-furlongs looking his trip based on the evidence presented, it’s time to press up while he is in such good nick.
WAISTCOAT – 1-point win@7-2

GILET was a slightly disappointing favourite at Lingfield last time out but the step up in trip was partly to blame and if concentrating on his previous effort over today’s C&D, he has a decent chance to make amends.
The way he finished off his race against Brasil Power here back a month ago, it was easy to see why connections gave him the license to stretch out over further on his next start, but he could only keep on at the one pace off the home turn – extenuated by challenging up the inside of the track.
Looking back to the form of his previous run, the winner and fifth have gone in again since and off the same mark from a good draw, Warren Greatrex’s inmate has strong claims to follow suit and add to his only other career victory.
GILET – 1-point win@7-2
