DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
FRIDAY JANUARY 30
6.00 WOLVERHAMPTON
ARLECCHINO’S REX just has one win to show for his endeavours, but that victory did come at today’s track and having well on his most recent outing at the Midland all-weather circuit, Mark Usher’s gelding can carry forward that strong piece of form into tonight’s much weaker contest.
Posted widest of all in stall 12 three weeks ago, the four-year-old was automatically dropped in by his pilot to give him some sort of chance of being competitive and although he couldn’t quite make up the lost deficit on the first two home, he kept on best of the rest to finish a never-nearer third.
Since that run, the runner-up, How’s The Guvnor, has gone on to win since and the fourth home, Volendam, looked like following suit at Lingfield yesterday until having his pocket picked late on by the strongly fancied Poke The Bear.
With the greatest respect, there isn’t anything like the calibre of R P McMurphy or How’s The Guvnor in today’s line up and from a much more favourable draw, it would be a surprise if the son of Belardo doesn’t have a say in the outcome.
ARLECCHINO’S REX – 1-point each-way@4-1
7.30 WOLVERHAMPTON
TRIBAL WISDOM has yet to put in a bad shift in eight races throughout this winter and with most of his better efforts over the years coming at tonight’s track, Ian Williams’ inmate can uphold his stats here that read 115113.
Such is his consistency at the Dunstall venue, it does make you wonder why he is asked to run elsewhere and that notion reared its head at Newcastle last time out.
Although he ran perfectly respectably to finish fourth behind the useful Dingle, the straight mile doesn’t play into his strengths and that effort made him 0-3 at the Gosforth track.
At Southwell previously, he once again did as well as expected but came up short and he is better judged on his two victories over tonight’s C&D earlier in the winter.
Each time the son of Frankel came through strongly at the backend to wrestle the spoils close home and a similar set-up regard pace should see him go close to replicating those feats on his return visit.
TRIBAL WISDOM – ½ point each-way@9-1
