DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
TUESDAY FEBRUARY 3
1.15 FAIRYHOUSE
DUNSY ROCK ran a lovely race on her debut at Down Royal on Boxing Day and she did more than enough to warrant an interest against her own sex with that vital experience under her belt.
Dropped out right at the rear in the early stages of a keenly contested affair in the north, the daughter of Poet’s Word still had plenty on her plate at the halfway stage but to her great credit, she stayed on with a good deal of purpose in the final half a mile to finish a never-nearer fourth, one place ahead of the useful, Dippedinmoonlight.
Considering it wasn’t a bad race of its kind (fastest time figure on the card), and she was not particularly fancied to cut much ice, hence her 66-1 price, Gordon Elliott’s inmate’s effort deserves special attention for being able to run a final circuit comparative to the winner.
Despite dropping back a full half a mile in trip and racing on totally different ground, she is still fancied to be competitive with Jack Kennedy now on board.
DUNSY ROCK – 1-point win@3-1
3.35 CARLISLE
HAARAR has won twice and finished in the frame on each of his last eight starts, so it makes perfect sense to keep Sam England’s inmate on side in a race he was just touched off in last season.
The seven-year-old was a shade disappointing at Haydock two starts ago but he was quick to make amends on his return visit a month later when coming through strongly in the final half a mile to score in ready fashion.
A horse that often thrives in a well-run environment, his speed figure in defeat to the well-fancied Golden Maverick last season sets a decent standard and if they go quickly again, the opportunity to go one place better will hopefully not be passed over.
HAARAR – 1-point each-way@9-2
