DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

MONDAY APRIL 13

1.52 LEICESTER

A very moderate day’s racing with a lack of quality right across the board, but this opening novice event does bring a well-needed added spice to proceedings and at the very least, we should see one or two nice horses on show for the future.

Of the 13 set to head to post, three have already won and of trio in question, WESTPORT makes the most appeal to uphold his unbeaten record.

George Boughey’s gelding was well touted before he made his debut at Lingfield 19 days ago and there was plenty to like about the way he lived up to his market expectations.

Soon prominent after a good beginning, the son of Blue Point tracked the leader going well rounding the home turn and when asked to go and win his race over a furlong out, he found a ready turn of foot to pull nicely clear.

What he ended up beating only time will tell, but the fact he did so with the minimum of fuss in a useful time figure suggests he is well above average.

Bred to be fast and clearly not short of gears based on the evidence of his display at the Surrey venue, he has all the attributes to work his way through the ranks and today’s contest looks an ideal stepping stone to further his progression.

WESTPORT – 1-point win@3-1
