It was a painful watch for supporters of NAKASSAMA at Cartmel last time out, but compensation awaits those who are prepared to keep the faith with Noel Kelly’s inmate returning to the venue where he was previously successful.
The six-year-old had made mincemeat of his opponents over today’s C&D after returning from a min-break a month ago and it was easy to see why he was heavily backed to repeat the dose on his raid over to the picturesque Cumbrian track.
Having travelled best through the first three-quarters of the 2m6f journey, seeking the better ground out wide, it was baffling why, once taking up the running, his pilot would then allow his mount to drift onto the churned-up conditions around the inside heading into Seven Acres (home bend) and down the home straight.
Unfortunately, this manoeuvre led to the son of National Defence suffering wheel spin in the run to the line and he was eventually picked off close home by Divilabother, who chose to tread a more favourable path down the centre of the course.
Now 212 since the application of a tongue-tie and clearly still on fine terms with himself based on his latest offering, he will be tough to beat back over today’s undulations.

ADELAIDE BAY finished a creditable runner-up in a race that was noted for its very smart speed figure for the grade at Yarmouth last time out and with the form working out accordingly since, Jane Chapple-Hyam’s gelding is fancied to continue the overall trend.
Held up towards the rear at the seaside venue, the four-year-old was still in last place at halfway but he managed to run down all bar winner, Dion Baker, inside the final two furlongs and with his conqueror going on to score again since (fourth almost won next time too), there was clearly no shame in his effort.
Although not the most consistent, the son of New Bay has managed to register three victories on the all-weather in his career and with arguably his best performance of the trio coming over today’s C&D, his current wellbeing lends itself to believe he can repeat the dose.
