Loman Lady arrives here under a bit of cloud having failed to stay 2m4f at Hexham last time out and the percentage call is to look towards JORAH D’ALMA to be the beneficiary of any further shortcomings of the favourite.
Fergal O’Brien’s gelding has had five attempts over hurdles so far and has yet to set the pulses racing but there have been one or two bright moments and his run here last time out offered plenty of hope that he can land a small race – which today’s most definitely is.
Although beaten 18 lengths by Trouville, the winner was trapping along at a decent rate in the final mile, backed up by the closing sectionals, and the data goes a long way to explain why he couldn’t lay a glove on that useful novice for this time of year over a sharp two miles.
Clearly connections no longer view the son of Spanish Moon having the capabilities of winning over the minimum trip, which is easy to concur with, and while the jump up to 2m7f comes with its risks, there is every chance he will be able to cope with the extra yardage in a race as weak as today’s.
