VEBLEN GOOD was a shade unfortunate the way the race panned out for him at Thirsk last time out and he is well worth another chance to back up his previous success at Pontefract much earlier in the season.
Immediately switched from his stall (one) to gain some cover towards the rear at the Yorkshire venue, David O’Meara’s gelding was noted travelling well in behind the pace down to halfway but from that juncture he was asked to challenge away from where the main action was taking place and, in the end, he just had too much ground to erode.
Finishing to good effect inside the final furlong, he left the distinct impression he might have won with a more direct passage to the line and with today’s task partly an exercise in finding out whether he may end up being a contender for either the Ayr Silver or Bronze Cup’s, the son of Starspangledbanner put his credentials firmly in the shop window.
