MOONLIT SURF has been a work in progress since returning to the fray in May and following a solid effort over today’s C&D last time out, the momentum she has been gathering looks set to result in her maiden status been ended.
Not knocked about on her first two outings this season, Owen Burrow’s filly shaped with plenty of promise after a slow start on handicap debut at Sandown and back in novice company here last time out, she continued trending in the right direction.
Up against the well-supported Thursday Girl (sent off 4-6) at the Midland venue, she gave favourite backers an almighty scare and considering she was the thick end of five lengths behind three out, her performance deserved upgrading.
After such a terrier-like effort in the first-time hood, she rates a strong choice to gain her due rewards with the headgear retained.

GINO BELLA ran out a ready winner of a competitive handicap hurdle over today’s C&D last time out and there appears no obvious reason to desert a mare that clearly has both her engines fully revved at present.
Pat Foley’s inmate gave signal that the flat nature of the Mallow circuit was to her liking when just touched off by Poets Oath back in March and on the back of another fine effort behind dual Galway scorer, Timurshah, at Clonmel in between times, she duly went one place better on her return visit.
The way she travelled before settling the argument with a decent turn of foot from two out was impressive and with the speed figure on par with the one she posted four months previously, she would only need to run to a similar standard to be heavily involved again.
