DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

WEDNESDAY AUGUST 12

3.00 SALISBURY

AN OUTLAW’S GRACE hasn’t won since making a winning start as a juvenile over today’s C&D but there was more than a shade of promise he might be capable of ending that trend based on his unlucky effort at Windsor last time out and he rates the value each-way call at the morning odds.

Jumping well to race just behind the speed at the Berkshire track, Richard Hannon’s inmate could be seen screaming for room inside the final two furlongs, but try as he might get out in the clear, the gaps just never materialised and he had to sit and suffer, ultimately finishing hard on the bridle.

Whether he would have won with a clear run is open to conjecture but at least his performance pointed towards a horse who arrives here in better shape than the bare form indicates and in what appears an open race on paper, he comes across as having as good a chance as any.

AN OUTLAW’S GRACE – 1-point each-way@17-2 (three places)

3.52 GOWRAN

LEMSAIRBAT could hardly be described as prolific with just one win in 20 starts next to her name, but she has kept very good company for the large part of her career and today’s race looks a good opportunity for her to have her moment in the spotlight.

Although she is nothing flash, at least we know she tries hard, stays well and just as importantly, handles today’s track.

Indeed, one of her best career efforts according to the data was her runner-up spot behind stable mate, Sindria, at the Kenny venue 100 days ago and she has since then gone on to chase home the very useful, Coedana, in a better contest at Pontefract.

Posting a very smart speed figure in defeat at the Yorkshire-based circuit, the form has worked out accordingly with the winner running with credit in a Group 1 and Brielle, springing a surprise in a listed contest at Newmarket and the daughter of Bated Breath can easily follow suit under her optimum conditions.

LEMSAIRBAT – 1-point win@3-1

4.22 GOWRAN

MARAZION failed to justify heavy support in her direction at The Curragh last time out due to her keenness in the early stages but providing she receives a little more of a conservative ride this time around, Jessica Harrington’s filly can prove her current rating remains a workable one.

The daughter of Sea The Stars had run with encouragement when pitched into the deep end at Group 3 level at Cork previously and it seemed to a wise move to head back into handicap company off a mark of 90.

However, Shane Foley rather injudiciously drilled her from the gate to race alongside main market rival Obscenity and with the pair going at it hammer and tongues for the first mile, it was unsurprising she had nothing left to offer when the bulk of the pack engulfed her two out.

Interestingly, though, it was noticeable Obscenity fell through the back of the tv to finish 29 lengths in rear, whereas she only got beaten 10 lengths, so it probably says plenty for her ability she managed to keep going for so long.

Hopefully her pilot will have learned valuable lessons from his moment of madness at the Kildare venue and his mount is well worth another chance at the morning odds.

MARIZION – 1-point each-way@8-1
