WOODHAY WAYFEARER improved immeasurably for a step up in trip at Newmarket last time out and off what still appears to be a workable mark, Tom Ward’s filly can continue her way through the ranks.
The daughter of Space Blues had the three mandatory runs prior to lining up at HQ and was one of a few unknown quantities, but she proved to be a total revelation, staying on strongly in the latter stages to record a comfortable success.
Posting a very quick speed figure for a race of its kind, the well-beaten third has gone to advertise the form next time out and having already had a spin around today’s track, when presumably not fully wound up, everything points towards a big run with Billy Loughnane booked.
WOODHAY WAYFEARER – 1-point win@5-2
2.10 ASCOT
It is easy to see why Heyzoom is a popular choice to land this 1m4f handicap based on his fine fourth over the same C&D at the Royal meeting but he has been off the track for 79 days and at the prices, the percentage call is to look towards ARCHERS BAY, who will have no excuses on account of fitness.
Marco Botti’s colt was super impressive on his first outing this season, but he rather lost his way until bouncing back in the right direction on his first start over today’s trip on Shergar Cup day.
Always travelling smoothly in the hands of Ryan Moore at the Berkshire circuit, the son of New Bay glided into the lead at the furlong pole and from that juncture, he increased his margin to the tune of three lengths at the line, winning with more in hand than the bare result suggested.
Thought good enough by connections to have a crack at the Italian Derby earlier in the season, the heavy ground rather scuppered his chance, but now back on better ground and against handicap company, he should have enough class to be competitive off his revised mark of 99.

2.20 KEMPTON
A race to avoid if you require far less stressful events to play in but for those who prefer being rewarding for solving a tricky puzzle, TWO TEMPTING could well turn out to be the answer to the final of this mile series.
The seven-year-old doesn’t have a sexy profile or hide anything from the handicapper but he does hold solid C&D form and the last time he raced at the Sunbury venue resulted in a victory over a bunch of improving three-year-olds.
Decent on the clock that day, Jonathan Portman’s gelding went on to post an even better number in a hot contest at Wolverhampton behind The Lost King and one would imagine today’s affair has been the plan since.
A couple of runs, most recently when a useful fourth at Chester, should have put a nice edge on him following a break and from a workable draw (stall 5) he looks one of the more solid each-way options.

5.15 STRATFORD
LORD OF THE GLANCE indicated plenty of encouraging signs going forward with a productive display off a 113-day break at Cartmel last time out and with the strong possibilities all necessary cobwebs have been blown away, Alex Hales inmate can take this race for the locals.
Held up some way off the strong pace set by Malangden, the son of Passing Glance had plenty left on his plate with a circuit to race, but he made up a huge amount of ground to work himself to a challenging position and in the end to only be beaten just three lengths had to go down as a tremendous effort under the circumstances.
Wildly impressive when winning over today’s C&D back in March, the seven-year-old would have likely followed up but for unseating his rider after the last at Plumpton next time and on balance, he looks the one to be with despite the presence of Jet Patrol in the line-up.
