It usually goes against the grain to oppose a Dan Skelton-trained novice in a handicap, especially with the potential of forthcoming improvement from another stable, but Lunar Orbit does face a solid opponent in the shape of ZAMOND on his first run for new connections and his course knowledge can hopefully been seen to good effect.
Six years senior of his main market rival, the 10-year-old is what he is, a largely consistent performer at this sort of level with no real flashy attributes but he does arrive here following one of his more productive efforts in recent times and a repeat might be enough to carry him to victory.
Runner-up to Alvesta at Cartmel 10 days ago, that performance was rewarded with a very healthy speed figure for the grade and with the third home, Lord Of The Glance ,going some way to boost the form at Stratford on Saturday (still not sure how he didn’t win), the race in question looks a reliable one.
Prior to that excellent display at the Cumbrian venue, the son of Diamond Green had lowered the colours of in-form pair, Scots Poet and Raffles Nobu over the same C&D a month earlier and having run well numerous times at his local track without winning, connections will be hoping he can put the record straight before he raises his bat.
Of the rest of the action today, Old Is Gold in the 5.00 at Goodwood was a consideration for a selection but his current odds around the 13-8 mark compared to 5-2 yesterday makes him a less appealing proposition and he is passed over despite his effort at York last time being a massively upgradable one.
