October 2 – Kempton – Night Raider – 79

A strong gallop set by Karl Burke’s inmate and nothing could lay a glove in him throughout the six furlong journey. Disappointing when tried over further during the summer, including the 2000 Guineas, a drop back in trip and returning to a surface where he is now 3-3 clearly played more into his strengths and he looks the type who could easily make the grade out on the dirt in Dubai.

October 2 – Musselburgh – Stormy Impact – 79

Just the three went to post but it was a race run at a true gallop and it provided the perfect opportunity for Richard Fahey’s filly to finally get off the mark. Unlucky several times this season on account of draw and track position, she had a good target to aim at thanks to the early speed displayed by Timescape and although her success proved to be a little more of a struggle than her odds suggested, the time figure she posted gave evidence of the reason why. She is worth another try at pattern level, while the runner-up will be a shoo-in for a similar event next time.

October 4 – Ascot – Holkham Bay – 83

A ding-dong tussle between the first two home and William Knight’s inmate once again proved his suitability to the stiff nature of the straight course at the Berkshire venue. Progressive until undone by the draw at York and Doncaster, a return to a course where his stats now read 211 was the determining factor and he is one to bear in mind for all the big 6f sprint races run at the track next season.

October 5 – Ascot – Voltera – 80

A very good tactical ride from the front by Shane Gray but he also had a willing partner who saw off a whole host of challengers inside the final two furlongs. Just touched off at York previous, the drop back to 7f proved the key and he would have to be of interest if connections rolled the dice with him again back over the same C&D on Champions Day. His current odds of 20-1 for that race look decidedly big.

October 5 – Curragh – Apache Outlaw – 79

A strongly run affair and it suited those who had nothing to do with the early fractions. The winner stalked the pace towards the nearside rail and once set alight he found a nice turn of foot to seal the deal late on. Versatile between 5 and 6f, Ado McGuiness’ inmate should remain competitive during what’s left of the season.

October 5 – Southwell – Champagne Prince – 80

A hugely competitive contest for the track and it won decisively by a horse who is now 3-3 on an all-weather surface. Always travelling kindly, the three-year-old grey picked up the running two out and from that juncture he maintained his advantage all the to the line and unsurprisingly for a race of this nature, the speed figure spoke favourably of the form. Likely to be kept on the go during the autumn and winter period, Jane Chapple Hyam’s inmate remains of interest on the synthetics.
