DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

TUESDAY JANUARY 7

5.00 WOLVERHAMPTON

BOUJEE GOLD (NAP) (best price 4-1) readily took care of Forever Proud over today’s C&D last time out and even though his old rival has improved again to win since, Tony Carroll’s inmate is fancied to uphold the form and prove the early morning markets to be all wrong.

Set a task at the Dunstall Park venue after a slow beginning, the six-year-old mare still only had one behind her with two furlongs to run but with a strong burst down the home straight, she readily picked off her rivals one by one and by the line, she was going even further clear.

Considering Forever Proud was at least five lengths ahead of the daughter of Garswood at one stage, it’s quite surprising to see such a disparity between the pair in the betting, and there is no doubt where the value lies based on the evidence to hand from 17 days ago.

BOUJEE GOLD – 1-point win@4-1

8.00 WOLVERHAMPTON

HEAVENLY FIRE (best price 7-2) didn’t receive the rub of the green at any stage over today’s C&D last time out and although she probably isn’t one for maximum stakes given her overall profile, she still warrants a small interest to make amends.

Drawn on the wide outside in stall 12 on a foggy day at the Dunstall Park circuit, it wasn’t easy to make head or tail what was going on half the time, but of the bits you could see of the runners in the gloom, she did really well to come from so far back and if she would have received a clearer passage inside the final furlong, she probably would have prevailed.

Despite that slightly unlucky effort, she still, however, does remain 0-16 in her career – hence the slight lack of confidence she can back up that display – but at the same time, she has enough ability to win a race of this lowly nature, and, from a better draw, she might just have her day in the sun.
