DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

WEDNESDAY JANUARY 15

3.00 NEWBURY

THROUGH THE AGES (best price 9-1) was still in contention when unluckily brought to a standstill three out at Plumpton last time out and he is afforded another to make amends over a C&D where he has enjoyed success in the past.

Heavily supported at the Surrey venue, Gary & Josh Moore’s inmate hadn’t been asked a serious question when a horse fell right in his path on the landing side and understandably, he was soon eased off and pulled up.

Prior to that untimely exit, the son of Golden Horn had shaped nicely in a useful race on the figures at Sandown and with the form working out so well since (Henri The Second and Vincenzo both won next time), it’s easy to see why he was the subject of a gamble a month later to follow suit.

Although his last two races were over 2m4f, he showed enough dash to win over the minimum trip here as a juvenile and with today’s testing ground likely to provide the sort of examination he requires, the four-year-old can get his season back on track.

THROUGH THE AGES – ½ point each-way@9-1

3.58 HEREFORD

LANESBOROUGH (best price 7-1) has given out the impression he’s been very much a handicap project in the making for some time now, and off an opening mark of 101, Ben Pauling’s inmate is fancied to back up that view.

Too keen on his opening bow over hurdles at Warwick, connections have decided to teach the son of Diamond Boy a thing or two about racing more efficiently by dropping right out in his last two starts and hopefully that process will begin to bear fruit at some stage – especially in races now where he should be more competitive.

Whether he will require further than two miles in future only time will tell but either way, he has enough natural ability to feature in a race of this nature and he is worth a roll of the dice to find out.

LANESBOROUGH – ½ point each-way@7-1

4.08 NEWBURY

GETURGUCCION (NAP) (best price 7-2) has been unfortunate to bump into two above-average novices so far this season and, having been handed what appears to be a workable opening mark, Alan King’s mare can make a big impact on handicap debut.

The daughter of Getaway proved second best when chasing the rapidly improving Dameofthecotswolds (won since) home at Ludlow first time out and at Plumpton last time out, she was the only one to offer any resistance to the subsequent Chepstow winner, Julius Des Pictons.

As both of her conquerors are now rated 129 and 123 respectively, she has done well to be handed an opening assessment of just 108 and with today’s step up in trip looking a prerequisite based on the evidence to hand, she looks primed to go well back at a track that saw her run extremely well in a bumper just under a year ago.

GETURGUCCION – 1-point win@7-2
