DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
WEDNESDAY MARCH 5
4.55 KEMPTON
There’s more than a fair chance MACEDONIAN (best price 13-2) is better than what he showed over today’s C&D last time out and on his first attempt in handicap company, Simon & Ed Crisford’s inmate is fancied to back up that view.
In what turned out to be a slowly run affair 49 days ago, the son of Kodiac was pocketed in behind a wall of horses as the tempo finally increased passing the cutaway and, as a result, he was rather caught flatfooted.
He did, however, pick up quite nicely once out in the clear when into his stride and having been handed a workable mark of 70, he could turn out to be the joker in the pack.
MACEDONIAN – ½ point each-way@13-2
5.17 LINGFIELD
Stepping up in trip did SONIC PIONEER (best price 11-4) no harm at Wolverhampton last time out and with the potential of more improvement to come up another two furlongs, a quickfire double could well be on the cards for Jack Morland’s gelding.
Drawn 12 of 12 at the Dunstall Park circuit, the strapping three-year-old had to use up plenty of petrol to get over and across to race handy in the early stages yet despite these exertions, he still had enough left in the tank to repel all challengers once in front down the straight.
Hitting the line well, he left the impression, in-keeping with his pedigree, he might be even better over further and he is fancied to uphold the form with previous C&D winner, Backer Bilk.
SONIC PIONEER – 1-point win@11-4

The novice event won by Miami matrix was a very good one of its kind and POLITICAL POWER (best price 5-1) looks set to fly the flag for the form on his handicap debut.
Occupying a mid-division sit early after slightly missing the break at the Midland venue, Charlie Clover’s gelding worked himself into a position whereby he held every chance swinging off the home bend and although he ran hard all the way to the line, he just didn’t quite have enough to reel back the winner, who looked above-average for this time of year.
Prior to that excellent effort on the figures two weeks ago, he shaped as though he didn’t quite stay the mile trip at tonight’s track and despite not been handed the kindest of draws on his return to the Sunbury venue, he has enough quality to potentially overcome the coffin box if David Egan can worm his way into the pack without doing too much damage.
POLITICAL POWER – 1-point each-way@5-1
