DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
TUESDAY APRIL 8
2.40 NAVAN
Mississippi River will no doubt by the one most punter’s will target in this maiden having had four near misses, but there should be expected improvement to come from DIEGO EL QUESO (best price 6-1) and he could turn out to be a little more troublesome than his position in the market suggests.
While Mississippi River raced prominently at Naas 16 days ago, Ger Lyons’ inmate languished in the rear after a slow beginning and, by halfway, there was at least 10 lengths separating the pair.
However, the work from the home turn from the son of Blue Point impressed the most and despite being hampered and denied a clear passage, he still managed to post the same last three-furlong sectionals as his main market rival (39.2).
Likely to take a huge step forward from that initial outing, he clearly has nothing to fear from Aidan O’Brien’s colt on the evidence presented at the Kildare venue and with a better break this time around, he should be feeling the collar of the market leader at the very least.

PRINCE OF INDIA (best price 2-1) looked an upwardly mobile three-year-old when making a successful start to his campaign at Wolverhampton last time out and with the speed figure backing up the visual impression he created, Marco Botti’s inmate rates confident choice to follow up.
The Wootton Bassett colt rounded off his juvenile season with a promising effort on soft ground at York and he carried forward the best form into his latest encounter at the Midland venue.
Sent off 4-6 favourite to dispose of his six rivals, he showed a sharp turn of foot in the latter stages to justify his position in the betting and based on the solid nature of the runner-up, Political Power, he looks to have done well to come out of that clash with a mark of 77.
One of the main clues from that excellent display was the addition of the first-time tongue-tie and with the same aid on again this evening, the progressive colt can continue his climb up through the ranks.
