DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
MONDAY MAY 5
3.35 CURRAGH
ATSILA is one of two maiden winners in today’s field taking a big step up in class, but such was the manner of her victory at Bellewstown, she could easily prove good enough to overcome her inexperience.
Being slowly away, as she was at the Meath venue, normally spells curtains around a sharp track that often suits those up with the speed, so the fact she managed to pass every single horse in the field in a short space of time is testimony to her ability.
Strong at the finish, Donnacha O’Brien’s inmate posted a decent speed figure for a race of its kind and with the potential of more to come, a better exit from the gates will hopefully set up a potent challenge for some black type of some description.
ATSILA – ½ point each-way@11-1
3.40 WINDSOR
THE FEMININE URGE (best price 4-1) has produced two useful efforts in defeat of late and a repeat of a similar level of form can see George Scott’s filly in the firing line for the main prize.
At Catterick two starts she was immediately behind the eight ball when badly hampered as the gates crashed back but to her credit, she stayed on extremely well inside the final two furlongs to force herself into a three-way photo for top honours.
No match for handicap debutante Maelstrom at Yarmouth last time out, she might have finished second had she obtained a clearer run late on but with the winner going in again (now rated 80) and the time figure a useful one for the grade, the daughter of Mehmas still came out of the race with plenty of hope for future (and easier) assignments.
On the evidence of her form last season, you’d say that today’s trip would be on the sharp side for her, but the Catterick run dispels that theory and having had the experience of running at today’s track twice as a juvenile, she has plenty of solid credentials to make her an appealing betting proposition on her return visit.
THE FEMININE URGE – 1-point each-way@4-1
