DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

SATURDAY MAY 24

The theory surrounding these types of three-year-old handicaps is you probably need a potential pattern race performer to win it and TEROOMM (best price 4-1) has the look of a horse who fits neatly into that category.

Roger Varian’s colt is almost a mirror image of previous stable mate Raadobarg, who took this race back in 2022 following just three runs and it’s also worth pointing out the pair similarly landed a novice event at Thirsk prior to coming here.

His hard-fought success over Parole d’Oro was highlighted by a very strong speed figure and an opening mark of 90 doesn’t appear too penal given the amount of improvement expected.

TEROOMM – 1-point win@4-1

2.10 BEVERLEY

Quite a tasty Hilary Needler on paper and it can go the way of ANGEL NUMBERS (best price 6-1) who made a sparkling debut at Chepstow 11 days ago.

Well touted at the Welsh venue beforehand, the daughter of Profitable settled nicely behind a strong early pace and once daylight appeared at the furlong pole, she found a smart turn of foot to pull readily clear.

Posting a very useful time for a juvenile, she deserves to take her chance in a better race and having been handed a favourable draw over on the far side rail, Dr Newland & Jamie Insole’s filly can take advantage and provide another notable success for her up-and-coming team.

ANGEL NUMBERS – 1-point each-way@6-1 (three places)

FIRST INSTINCT (best price 11-1) more than justified her trip over the Irish Sea with a game success last time out and with the combination of a decent draw, underfoot conditions and C&D form in her favour, William Haggas’ filly looks set to continue her progression through the ranks.

Well backed during the build up to her latest encounter despite being up against the very smart Babouche (10-1 into 4-1), the three-year-old filly travelled kindly for the first part of the well-run affair and when push came to shove at the business, she knuckled down to the task at hand to fend off the late challenge of Town And Country close home.

Based on the data she produced at the Mallow venue, she took her game to another level and having already proven herself over today’s C&D with some give underfoot (times yesterday suggested they had heavily watered), the daughter of Bated Breath looks massively overpriced in her first try at Group 2 level.

FIRST INSTINCT – ½ point each-way@11-1

AMERICAN AFFAIR (best price 5-2) has quickly developed into one of the most improved sprinters in the UK and following on from a victory at York last week that strongly hinted he warrants tackling better company, Jim Goldie’s inmate is fancied to make the transition to pattern class a seamless exercise.

The speed figure he posted when making a successful start to the campaign was the first sign that theory wasn’t too far off the mark and the five-year-old duly backed up the same view at York last time out.

Clocking equally impressive numbers in successive races, the son of Washington DC achieved this feat against the track bias and having gone well on his two previous visits to today’s, he can prove his strong handicap form is good enough to allow him to muscle in among what appears to be an average bunch of Group sprinters.

AMERICAN AFFAIR – 1-point win@5-2
