DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
SUNDAY JUNE 1
3.05 CHANTILLY
A wide-open feel to the French Derby and KING OF CITIES (best price 12-1) has as good a chance as any to steal the prize from under the noses of the locals.
Like many of today’s field, he is unproven at Group 1 level but his performance in the Fielden Stakes on his first start of the season suggests he is well worth a crack and the clock also backs up that view.
In what turned out to be a proper test at the trip, Richard Hannon’s inmate just came out second best in a protracted dual with Almeric in the closing stages but with the pair miles clear of the rest, the form looks solid.
Bred to excel at this sort of trip and beyond, he has a likable attitude to match his natural talent and despite a tricky draw to overcome, he still makes plenty of appeal as sporting each-way bet at the morning odds.
KING OF CITIES – ½ point each-way@12-1 (five places)
4.45 CHELMSFORD
KITTY FURNIVAL (NAP) (best price 10-3) can count herself unlucky to bump into a resurgent Educator at Lingfield last time out and Simon & Ed Crisford’s filly can gain compensation against opposition well within her capabilities.
Yet to finish out of the money in all six starts on the all-weather, the daughter of Zarak continued that trend at the Surrey venue a month ago and with her conqueror going on to prove the value of the form at Windsor on the turf next time, her speed figure in defeat carries even more weight going forward.
Although yet to race at today’s track or beyond 1m4f, she shapes like both will suit and hailing from an in-form stable, another positive result for her cv looks on the cards.
KITTY FURNIVAL – 1-point win@10-3
6.45 CHELMSFORD
GLAM SQUAD (best price 15-2) caught the eye with the way he finished off his race from an unpromising position at Kempton last time out and with the strong possibility Charlie Fellows’ grey will a good deal sharper for the run, he is fancied to take a much keener involvement here this afternoon.
Being drawn 12 of 12 at the Sunbury venue didn’t help matters in the first place and once the decision was made to drop him in to give him some sort of chance, the dye was cast as far as winning was concerned.
He did, however, make up plenty of late gains to finish a creditable an honourable fifth and with his time figure in defeat pointing towards his performance being a fair one considering the circumstances, he deserves plenty of extra validation.
Only once blowing out in five on the all-weather previously, all his best data suggests he is more effective on such a surface and with a better break from stall 1 here todays he can work herself into a position where he can be a more potent threat throughout.
GLAM SQUAD – ½ point each-way@15-2
