DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

TUESDAY JUNE 3

5.00 SOUTWHELL

AAZZA (NAP) (best price 5-2) can count herself unlucky to bump into a progressive type in the shape of Heather Honey at Bangor last time out and she is strongly fancied to gain compensation back at a track that saw her to best effect the time before.

Bidding to make all the running at the Welsh venue, Paul Robson’s mare pushed the pace along at a fair rate until joined by the eventual winner at the second last and even though she tried to rally and regain the lead at the last, she finally had to admit defeat close home.

Even so, the final circuit time of 2.36.4 was easily the best on the card and when you consider the 126-rated two-miler Stream Of Stars, was the next best (2.37.6), it puts into context the level the daughter of Beat Hollow achieved for a horse racing over a mile further.

Prior to that gutsy effort, the nine-year-old had lowered the colours of an improving mare from the Dan Skelton yard over today’s C&D and with both her last two speed figures suggesting she is well and truly in the zone currently, her third win in her last four starts looks a distinct possibility.

7.15 LINGFIELD

SHAATIR (best price 11-4) not only has the benefit of a previous outing, but there’s also a strong possibility he can ride the wave of the favoured stands side rail, and those factors might well be enough to withstand a couple of well touted debutantes.

Spoken about in favourable terms prior to his debut at Chepstow, Archie Watson’s grey unfortunately ran with the dummy in his mouth for much of the journey and it was only in the latter stages when the signs of greenness started to wear off.

To add to his tribulations, he ended up stranded down the unfavourable middle part of the track, while the more experienced, Italica, jumped on the best ground next to the stands side rail, so in the circumstances, he did extremely well to keep tabs on the winner.

Although there are only six runners here tonight, being housed in stall six provides him with the ideal opportunity of gaining an advantage of racing on the golden highway and as we’ve seen so many times at the Surrey venue, being in that position can aid the cause no end.
