DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
TUESDAY JUNE 24
7.27 NEWTON ABBOT
PRIVILEDGE (NAP) (best price 2-1) still remains a maiden over hurdles after 15 attempts but he has found a nice bit of form of late and with his latest effort coming as a career high over today’s C&D, a return to the west country venue could see the seven-year-old finally break his duck.
The seven-year-old hinted of better times ahead when fourth at Chepstow back in April and following another reasonable effort at Ffos Las, he raised his game even further when chasing home all-the-way winner Stinginhistep here last time.
Although it was a case of being never nearer than at the finish, the data from his final circuit 27 days ago suggested he had run to a similar level achieved by the 117-rated Al Sayah, who landed the 2m5f handicap on the same card, and hailing from a small stable who have hit a purple patch over the last few days (three of their last eight runners have won), John & Rhys Flint’s gelding can add his name to the list.
PRIVILEDGE – 1-point win@@2-1
8.27 NEWTON ABBOT
SPITALFIELD (best price 5-1) has only win to show for his endeavours in 17 starts but he shaped well enough at Worcester last time to suggest that stat is in danger of going in due course and the seven-year-old is worth supporting here to back up that view.
Off the track since running well in a competitive environment at Doncaster back in January, Jonjo & AJ O’Neill’s inmate was entitled to need the run after his break and as things panned out at the Midland venue, that pre-race theory turned out to be the case up against I’m A Starman, rock-hard fit after a series of encounters.
The way the son of Mahler travelled for nine tenths of the three-mile journey, however, pointed towards a horse in a decent headspace and with the strong possibility he will see his race out a little better than last time with that all important under his belt, he gains the confident vote of being in the thick of the action at the business end.
SPITALFIELD – 1-point win@5-1
