DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
FRIDAY JUNE 27
3.08 CARTMEL
Time may tell KILLYBEGS JET LADY (best price 11-2) faced an impossible task up against two above-average types for the time of year at Bangor last time out but in a race that doesn’t appear to harbour anything of the same magnitude, Lucinda Russell’s mare might prove good enough to make her breakthrough under rules.
A previous Irish point winner, the daughter of Jet Away was held up out of her ground at the Welsh venue and although she stayed on to good effect in the latter stages, the first two home were away and gone before she could gather up ahead of steam.
In all fairness, it’s probably stretching it to say she deserved more but the speed figure she posted in defeat was by some way her career best and a repeat of something in a similar ballpark will be good enough to see her put her maiden status under pressure.
KILLYBEGS JET LADY – 1/2-point each-way@11-2 (four places)
4.30 DONCASTER
ALASHOS (NAP) (best price 7-2) has been trending in the right direction since undergoing a gelding operation and with the pick of his recent efforts coming over today’s C&D last time out, James Horton’s inmate is fancied to go one place better.
Pushing a strong pace from the start, the son of Showcasing was still hanging tough heading towards the final furlong but he ultimately succumbed to the late burst of the well-backed favourite, Promise Time, and he had to settle for an honourable second.
Although that defeat was a tough one to take at the time, his speed figure was a small crumb of comfort to carry forward and having been lucky enough to stumble across another similar Class 6 event over the same C&D within a fortnight, expect him to make a bold bid to seize on the opportunity presented.
ALASHOS – 1-point win@7-2
