DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
MONDAY JUNE 3-
5.45 WINDOR
SILVER WRAITH (best price 10-3) came close to shedding her maiden tag at Goodwood last time out and with a return to tonight’s venue seen as no disadvantage based on her previous effort, Emma Lavelle’s filly has every chance of going one place better.
The daughter had caught the eye when keeping on well from a bad draw here two starts ago and, as a result, she was a popular choice with many to make an impact on handicap debut at the Sussex circuit next time.
Unfortunately for her supporters, she didn’t herself any favours with a tardy start and although she made a bold fist of trying to resurrect the situation, the ground she forfeited proved a barrier too far.
She did, however, show more than enough to suggest with a cleaner break she has what it takes to win a similar race and tonight’s contest looks an ideal opportunity for that theory to come to fruition.
SILVER WRAITH – 1-point win@10-3
7.15 WINDSOR
TOCA MADERA (best price 4-1) has shaped on several occasions of late that a return to six furlongs wouldn’t go amiss and back at a track where he was last successful, Brian Meehan’s inmate looks poised to back up that ideology.
Having finished a creditable runner-up to subsequent King Charles winner, American Affair, at York on his penultimate outing, it was easy to see why the four-year-old was a warm order to go two places better on his latest start over tonight course, but as events panned out, he just lacked the basic speed of several track specialist over the minimum trip and he ended up playing a minor role.
Even in defeat, however, he still churned out another commendable speed figure and with Havanagreatime and Zoulu Chief likely to provide him with the strong pace he desires, expect the son of Bated Breath to be a prominent character in the final scene.
TOCA MADERA – 1-point each-way@4-1 (three places)
