DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

MONDAY JULY 14

3.50 NEWTON ABBOT

GORE POINT (NAP) (best price 5-2) had the misfortune to bump into the revitalised G’Day Aussie at Worcester last time out but with the form twice boosted by the winner since and a return to the scene of his previous success in his favour, Anthony Honeyball’s gelding has the ideal opportunity to strike back.

The main reason for his defeat at the Midland came from the fact he was spending way too much time in the air over the brush hurdles and the totting up process finally caught up with him when joined by the eventual winner on the run-in.

Back over the conventional hurdles here today, his previous victory at the west country venue suggested that he was a summer jumper worth keeping on side and with an extra two furlongs seen as a big positive given his run style, the five-year-old appears the one with the most up his sleeve.

GORE POINT – 1-point win@5-2

6.15 KILLARNEY

BEAUTIFUL AFFAIR (best price 6-1) can be considered a slightly unlucky loser in her latest exploits at Tipperary and compensations awaits Joseph O’Brien’s filly if things pan out more in her favour this time around.

Just on the heels of the leaders turning for home at the Limerick Junction circuit, she had no room down the inside and was switched in a bid to deliver her challenge inside the final furlong but unfortunately the process in extricating herself from the pocket took longer than anticipated and by the time she eventually saw daylight, the dye was cast.

However, she did hit the line in the style of a horse who had plenty to offer and with tonight’s extra furlong seen as a plus, the daughter of Wootton Bassett can shed her maiden tag on her fourth handicap start.

BEAUTIFUL AFFAIR – ½ point each-way@6-1 (four places)
