DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
SUNDAY AUGUST 17
2.30 TRAMORE
MIGDAM (best price 9-2) caught the eye in a big way on his hurdling debut at Ballinrobe and with a more positive ride this time around, Edward Buckley’s recruit is fancied to make a bigger impact.
Bought out of a claimer by new connections following a useful Flat career with Ado McGuiness, the six-year-old was given plenty of time to warm to the task at hand at the Mayo venue but he came home to good effect in the final half a mile, so much so that he was bearing down on the main players in the dying embers.
On the evidence of what was seen of him 26 days ago, he has a decent platform from which to build moving forward and in what looks a similar race to the one he faced on his opening bow, there is every reason to feel upbeat about his chance.
MIGDAM – 1-point each-way@9-2
4.22 SOUTHWELL
PHILANTHROPIST (best price 10-3) must bounce back from a disappointing effort at Yarmouth when last seen 51 days ago but as he returns to a surface that allowed him to post a career high performance back in April, James Fanshawe’s gelding rates a confident choice to do so.
Up to now, all his best efforts have come over seen furlongs and, more to the point, on the all-weather, so a mile on the turf probably stretched his resources t the limit at the seaside venue anyway.
Prior to his only modest display in recent times, the son of Sergei Prokofiev had been in much better heart and his victory over today’s C&D came at the expense of none other than Prince Of India, who is now rated 104.
Also, a winner on his only other all-weather start, the three-year-old returns to the scene of that noteworthy success against opposition well within his range and it is hard to envisage him not featuring with plenty in his favour.
PHILANTHROPIST – 1-point win@10-3
Hi Andy, Dan tucker run yesterday, what did you make to him back at 5f?
Jedd/Jack believes that Goodwood has left its mark and thats why he wasnt at his best, having seen the figure of yesterdays race not being great, would you have him back to 6f if he was your own or would you persevere with 5f
he will have a couple of easy weeks before he goes again
thanks
Liam
