DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

SUNDAY AUGUST 24

3.25 NAAS

VESPERTILIO (best price 10-1) didn’t receive the rub of the green at The Curragh last time out but, back among her own sex, she is afforded a chance to make amends in this much weaker race.

With the stalls situated in the centre at the Kildare venue 15 days ago, her high draw meant when the field decided to migrate towards the far side, she was going to be left stranded away from the main group of runners and so it proved.

Having nothing to carry into the business end, she was left to row her own boat inside the final two furlongs but despite this impost, she did stay on in determined fashion to finish on the coat tails of the main players.

In short, it was a performance that suggested she remains in decent nick and with nothing of the calibre of the likes of Bucanero Fuerte, King Of Blue and My Mate Alfie in today’s field, a bold bid is very much expected from this classy filly from what could turn out to be a favourable draw if they migrate towards the nearside rail.

VESPERTILIO – 1-point each-way@10-1

3.35 GOODWOOD

Due to the nature of the track, it is very difficult to look impressive when winning at Pontefract but despite this trait, MAKE ME KING (best price 7-2) did well to buck the trend in a listed contest last month and based on the data he produced, he may well have been underestimated in among this similar opposition.

Yes, today’s affair is a Group 2 but the likes of Jonquil and Persica are not to be feared and the five-year-old grey, in any case, is very much on an upward curve.

Seemingly winning with plenty in hand at the Yorkshire venue, the Dark Angel gelding posted by some way a career high on the figures (very fast time) and with Boiling Point (fourth) going on to do the form no harm at York yesterday, hope is high this consistent performer can continue the same theme.

MAKE ME KING – 1-point win@7-2
