RENOIR 9best price 15-2) was soundly beaten on his first run for four months at Plumpton last time out but today’s assignment represents a significant drop down in class and his previous course form gives him a better chance of being competitive than his morning odds suggest.
Up against four rivals who had ratings north of 120 at the Sussex venue, Ben Clarke’s inmate was understandably outpaced over the two-mile journey but with the greatest respect to today’s field, he’s not facing anywhere near the likes of Aucunrisque. Brave Knight and Howth in this Class 4 contest.
Prior to his effort that would have least served the purpose of blowing away the cobwebs, the six-year-old had performed well when third in a competitive novices’ handicap won by Public Enemy and with the time figure of the race suggesting it was a fair race of its kind, a repeat of a similar level of form should see him go well again on his return visit.
On the betting front, there’s a good chance Piecederesistance won’t run after yesterday’s exploits, so keep an eye out for firms who are still paying out on three places.

NEOMA (best price 11-2) ran out a very impressive over tonight’s C&D last time out and with the strong possibility the assessor hasn’t done enough to slam the brakes on her progress, she rates a confident choice to repeat the dose.
Unlike several of her other previous runs, her improved performance came about from the fact she was dropped in off the pace and that meant her energy levels were at a high for when she needed them most.
The winning margin of a length and three quarters underestimates her superiority on the day but even allowing for the ease of her victory, the time figure suggested it was a display of some magnitude and on that basis, there could be plenty more to come, especially if ridden in a similar fashion.
Without suggesting tonight’s race is going to be breaking any records, there are at least a couple who have set decent fractions from the front on the past and providing that turns out to be the case, the daughter of Sea The Moon will have the perfect environment from which to thrive.
