DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
TUESDAY OCTOBER 7
5.28 SOUTHWELL
GHISA (best price 5-1) exhibited a huge amount of promise when making a winning start to her career at Wolverhampton last month and even though she faces several with similar blank canvases, Ollie Pear’s filly is still fancied to put her valuable experience to good use and come out on top.
A step slow into stride at the Dunstall Park venue, the daughter of Belardo was restrained in the rear throughout the early exchanges until moving into contention coming off the home bend, from which point she really engaged top gear.
Powering home to best effect down the outside, she engulfed her rivals with a devastating turn of foot and by the time she had hit the line, she was bounding clear for a comfortable success.
Although she didn’t post anything special with her overall speed figure, her backend work more than balanced the books (34.8 from 3f out best on the card) and with the distinct possibility that today’s extra furlong will play even more into her strengths, it will take a good one to stop her once she engages top gear down the straight.
GHISA – 1-point each-way@5-1
Hi Andy, is it me or has punting been really hard to come by winners at the moment, granted its the end of the year and ground started to go, but its probably my worst run in some time (18 months or so)
Bring on dubai…
Yes, in general it can be tricky at this time on year. I usually tread carefully and I’m going to take a break for week’s holiday at the end of the month to recharge batteries for the jumps. Figures worked great during the height of summer down to ground being universally good during that period and now conditions are changing, the results become a bit more unpredictable.
Agreed, i also had a good summer. Im at york saturday, Breeders cup and Champions day then ill probably bed down till new year as i find early season jumps form just impossible!
