September 28 – Newcastle – Gran Descans – 89

A strongly run affair and a bounce back to form from a three-year-old who has the potential to take his game to even greater heights. Harry Charlton’s inmate arrived on the scene travelling well three out but it took him a while to engage top gear and it was only inside the final furlong when he really began to stretch away. Hitting the line hard, this big, scopey sort left the impression he is worth another try beyond 1m4f and he remains one to keep on side for the foreseeable future.

September 29 – Hamilton – Corolla Point – 86

Kudos to Ed Bethell with this Godolphin cast off and the the clock suggests his winning spree might not be at end just yet. The son of Blue Point made it 2-2 since switching to his new barn and the drop back to five furlongs seems to be the key to his current progress. The three-year-old has really impressed with the way he has travelled before quickening well to seal both races pretty instantly and even his revised mark of 94 might not be sufficient damage inflicted by the assessor.

October 3 – Ascot – Aegean Prince – 83

Arguably one of the most impressive winners of the entire week and Charlie Appleby’s inmate deserves to be followed accordingly. Off strong fractions at the Berkshire venue, he powered clear in the closing stages to record a resounding eight length success and his winning speed figure backed up the visually impression of his display. Handed a post-race rating of 99, he still qualifies for handicaps if connections wished to go down that particular route although it would come as little surprise if he were stepped up to pattern company given how his stable tend to operate.

October 4 – Curragh – Carla Ridge – 81

Unlucky in a handicap over the same C&D previously, Edward Harty’s inmate was extremely well backed to make amends on her return visit and she duly made no mistake, coming right away in the closing stages to win unchallenged. Clearly in the rudest of health based on the evidence of this win, connections will no doubt be seeking something similar in due course and providing she gets her favoured soft ground, she will be a hard one to stop.

October 4 – Newmarket – Fallen Angel – 82

It has been a terrific season for the master of Spigot Lodge and this filly typifies the spirit and qualities of the yard. Yes she is very talented, but she also has that desire to win that sets her apart against her own sex and it is a trait seen with many of her inmates this season. She now deserves a crack at the boys again in the QEII at Ascot on Champions Day and on soft ground, she will be a big danger to all.
