DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

NEW BAY STAR (best price 9-2) was never able to make any sort of impression on debut in a warm maiden at Yarmouth, but he did more than enough towards the dying embers of the contest to warrant a small interest second time up.
Posted out widest of all in an 11-runner field at the seaside track, Charlie Johnston’s colt was also slow into stride to just compound matters and, as a result, he found himself some way off the pace as the main player turned for home.
Niggled along and green as the tempo began to increase three furlongs from home, he did, however, make some marginal gains from that juncture to the line and under the circumstances, it wasn’t a bad effort when all said and done.
Given the time figure of the well-run affair, his performance came out better than at first feared and with the prospect of him knowing a good deal more than he did 21 days ago, the son of New Bay can take the expected step forward towards a more prominent display.
NEW BAY STAR – 1-point each-way@9-2

SILVER WRAITH (best price 7-2) was narrowly denied in her bid to get off the mark at Goodwood last time out but with the data pointing towards her effort being a career best so far, Emma Lavelle’s grey is worth another chance to finally have her consistency rewarded.
Showing bright speed to edge over towards the stands side rail at the Sussex venue, the daughter of Havana Grey readily saw off those who raced up with the pace with her from the start only to find herself nailed in the shadows of the post by the more conservatively ridden Noble Consort.
The best of the three-year-olds that day, she looks to be the pick of her generation here this afternoon and with most of the older horses having an exposed feel to them, it is an opportunity she will hopefully not squander.
SILVER WRAITH – 1-point win@7-2
5.10 CHELMSFORD
MOONLIGHT MIRAGE (best price 11-1) didn’t get the opportunity to build on her previous success at Kempton last time out due to circumstances beyond her control and she is fancied to get back on track and show her true worth over a more suitable trip.
Impressing with the way she gunned down her field from well off the pace at Wolverhampton on her second start, George Scott’s filly was asked to tackle an extra furlong at the Sunbury venue last time out but unfortunately she got shuffling back through the field from an early stage and despite making up a little late ground, it was a bridge too far against a good bunch of fillies.
Back down to five furlongs today and housed in a prime position, a decent break should see the daughter of Acclamation produce a more polished display.
MOONLIGHT MIRAGE – ½ point each-way@11-1 (four places)
