DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

FRIDAY OCTOBER 17

ANOTHER LORD (best price 9-2) seems to really come alive over today’s track and following his second C&D win last time that took his stats to 2211, Mickey Bowen’s chestnut rates a strong choice to keep that impressive record intact.

The son of Sans Frontieres was up against the in-form, strongly fancied Wheresmymoneygone here a month ago and for the large majority of the three-mile journey, he looked as though he was going to come out second best.

However, he dug deep for pressure when he needed it most and, in the end, he wore down his main market rival on the run-in to win going away in a fast time (career high).

To hammer home the point about his love affair with today’s venue, the eight-year-old never went a yard and was eventually pulled up at Market Rasen previously and now returning to his happy hunting ground under ideal conditions, anything other than a positive performance would be somewhat of a headscratcher.

LOOKAWAY (best price 15-8) will no doubt have most of this campaign geared around going back over fences (entered at Newton Abbot tomorrow), but this looks a good opportunity for him on his seasonal bow and Neil King’s inmate could end up just being a class apart.

Off the mark at the first time of asking in his new discipline over today’s course this time last year, the eight-year-old was pitched into Grade 2 company just three weeks later and although he proved no match for L’Eau De Sud, he still performed well enough to finish a creditable third.

Not seen out since, presumably the son of Ask has had some sort of setback in the intervening period and while he has been away, he has also undergone surgery to tweak his wind.

Looking back at some of his better efforts over hurdles, he was good enough to finish runner-up in the 2023 Greatwood Hurdle to Iberico Lord, with the likes of Luccia, Nemean Lion and Go Dante behind, and he followed that display up with an equally fine performance a month later, filling out the same spot in the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle.

Arguably, the biggest pointer towards his chances here today, however, stems from the fact he is not only 3-3 over today’s track, he also has an amazing record when fresh and being the type of horse that connections probably wouldn’t take to the races undercooked, Lookaway has all the attributes to land a race of this nature.
