DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

TUESDAY MAY 5

8.08 GOWRAN

HALE BOPP wouldn’t normally be one to jump off the page, being an exposed eight-year-old who hasn’t won since 2023, but he did come across as being slightly unfortunate not to finish closer than sixth in a warm handicap at Cork last time out and his morning odds are big enough to warrant a small interest to see whether he can make amends.

Russ Donohue’s gelding was noted making smooth headway over towards the far side rail at the Mallow venue when he ran down a blind alley and by the time he was extrecated from the pocket, the dye was cast as far as winning was concerned.

However, his final furlong work was eye catching to say the least and on the evidence of that display, there could be life in the old dog yet.

HALE BOPP – ½ point each-way@10-1 (five places)

9.00 WOLVERHAMPTON

DAYTONA LADY benefitted from a strong early pace when coming through at the business end to win going away over tonight’s C&D last time out and with three prominent racers to ensure the gallop is honest on her return visit, Ruth Carr’s mare looks very much in the copy and paste zone.

Admittedly, she isn’t the most consistent of performers but three of her eight career victories have come at the Dunstall Park venue so clearly the track suits her eye.

Posting a very smart speed figure two weeks ago, she couldn’t arrive here in any better health and even though she faces similarly in-form Magna seeking to complete the hat trick, the daughter of Bungle Inthejungle can prove to be the party pooper.

DAYTONA LADY – 1-point win@11-2
