DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

SUNDAY MAY 10

1.55 LEOPARDSTOWN

No superstars on show in this staying maiden and it would come as no surprise if MIGHTY WAVE were to outrun his odds following a much more encouraging effort at Gowran last time out.

Jim Bolger’s gelding only showed a modicum of promise on his debut at The Curragh but there was much more encouragement taken from his performance at the Kenny venue two weeks later with the way he stayed on in the closing stages.

Dwelling at the start and well in the rear 31 days ago, the son of Dawn Approach did extremely well to finish third from where he was at halfway and on the evidence of that display over a mile, he looks destined to be seen to better effect over further.

In-keeping with that belief, connections have stepped him up a full half a mile in the hope to initiate further improvement and hailing from a yard that struck with a 25-1 shot in a maiden at Naas yesterday, it is a surprise to see him languishing around at a similar price on bookmakers’ lists this morning.

MIGHTY WAVE – ½ point each-way@28-1

3.05 LEOPARDSTOWN

Alcantor is clearly the focus of attention in this listed event taking a big drop down in class on his first run for Joseph O’Brien but, on ground that could turn out to be plenty lively enough, the percentage call at the morning odds is to look towards TOKENOMICS as a value alternative.

David Marnane’s gelding has worked his way through the ranks whereby he had no other alternative but to tackle pattern company for the first time here last time out and although he failed to cut much ice, his effort in defeat was a bit better than the bare result indicated.

Trapped in behind a wall of horses approaching two out, the son of The Grey Gatsby had to be switched to make a belated challenge at the point where several were quickening away from him and although he did his level best to rescue the situation, the dye was cast as far as making an impact on the main players was concerned.

Keeping on well late on, he left the impression he might play a bigger role in a similar event on better ground and returning to the same track where his form figures now read 4314, another positive result looks highly likely.

TOKENOMICS – 1-point each-way@11-1
