DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

TUESDAY MAY 12

4.10 HEREFORD

CAMPAIGN TRAIL hasn’t hit the heights expected by connections over hurdles, but there was more encouragement to be taken from his latest exploits at Southwell, enough certainly to warrant a small interest in Kim Bailey & Matt Nicholls’ gelding at a slightly lower level.

The six-year-old carried forward an improved effort into the competitive handicap at the Midland venue from his previous outing and although still not successful, he came out of the contest with a speed figure to suggest he should be an even bigger force at a future date.

Helping to force a strong gallop 41 days ago, the son of Mastercraftsman looked likely to succeed when he kicked clear at the top of the home straight but as events panned out, his early exertions caught up with him late on and he was engulfed by two ridden a little more off the speed.

Hopefully that effort will have served the purpose of getting some well-needed confidence back into his head and now back into a 0-110, he can make class count.
