DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
WEDNESDAY JUNE 3
4.18 NOTTINGHAM
Backing unlucky losers last time out on a regular basis is usually a one-way ticket to the poorhouse but a chance is taken on KASGANI bucking the trend on his return to his eye-catching effort over today’s C&D on his seasonal bow.
Having his first start for new connections after leaving Dermot Weld, the four-year-old was seemingly not that well fancied, being allowed to go off at 22-1, but had he received a clearer pathway through the field in the final half a mile, he may have defied those odds.
Based on the jockey’s body language, it is probably fair to say he could have employed a little more urgency, but either way, it was still an encouraging performance from a horse coming back off a 211-day break.
Hopefully, the combination of that all-important run under his belt and the fact he is a good deal more prominent in the market initiate a more positive response in the saddle and while no means a good thing, it would be disappointing if he doesn’t end up being competitive at the very least.
KASGANI – 1-point win@7-2
7.20 CURRAGH
YULIA never got the opportunity to stretch her legs at Sligo last time out and she is afforded another chance to back up the view she was more than a shade unlucky.
Well supported to make a winning start for her new connections, the daughter of Camelot was noted travelling as well as anything heading out of the back straight but once meeting the rising ground at the Cleveragh Road venue, that is where the difficulties began to rear their ugly head.
Spending the final two furlongs pinned over towards the far side rail, it is all down to pure guesswork how she would have fared with a clear run but with the balance of probability edging favourably of her being the most likely winner bar the interference, her effort deserves to be marked up accordingly.
Since that run, the likes of Thrifty Of Digby (won twice), and Electric Beauty have both gone on to advertise the form/speed figure of the event and with all her best displays from her native France coming on an easy surface, the forecast rain is seen as a welcome addition to her claims.
The only issue surrounding her chances is her wide draw but hopefully Declan McDonogh can work his way into a position of strength over this sort of trip.
YULIA – ½ point each-way@13-2 (four places)
