DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
THURSDAY JUNE 11
4.05 NEWBURY
WILD CLARY has strung together an enviably consistent set of results in recent times and with the latest addition coming when third in a hot handicap at Carlisle just 12 days ago, Richard Hannon’s gelding looks poised to add to his growing sequence achievements.
The four-year-old went well for a long way only to come up short in the latter stages but with the time figure of the race at the Yorkshire circuit reading well for the grade, his effort in defeat was a commendable one.
Prior to that display, the son of Dark Angel had just got lost in a three-way photo to a similar heat at Ripon but once again, the speed figure gauge was flashing on red, and all the evidence gathered of him of late suggests he is in the form of his life.
The only slight negative today comes from him being drawn in stall one if the field migrates over towards the nearside but other than that potential stumping block, his recent form figures of 321322432, two performances on soft ground and two of his three C&D efforts all point to him being the one to beat.
WILD CLARY – 1-point win@5-2
8.00 LEOPARDSTOWN
MARMELADOVA faced an impossible task trying to concede the thick end of a stone to a couple of improving three-year-olds at Gowran last time out and she rates a much more viable proposition now back against a more realistic set of opponents.
Although Ken Condon’s inmate proved no match for the younger generation in the latter stages at the Kenny venue, it is worth pointing out she did only get beaten a length by the 92-rated Lady Mairen and the proximity to Paddy Twomey’s filly is probably a better guide of how she performed 22 days ago.
Previously, the daughter of Inns Of Court had dished out a sound beating to the useful, 85-rated Mano Chicago in a well-run affair at Ballinrobe and off what appears a tempting mark of 75 on handicap debut, she can make an impression on her first outing in this discipline.
MARMELADOVA – ½ point each-way@11-1 (four places)
