Not a great day’s racing to begin the week but KILLOWEN HOUSE makes enough appeal at the morning prices to justify breaking rank as being the stand alone advise.
Paul Gilligan’s gelding has had just the four starts over hurdles since landing a point-to-point back in April and there has been more than a fair share of promise for the future in each display.
His opening gambit at Cork saw him finish a creditable third to the 131-rated, Doctor De Mesnil, in a three-mile maiden hurdle and when you consider he was the thick end of 20 lengths behind Willie Mullins’ useful performer at halfway and only got beaten 10, his effort deserved upgrading.
Dropping back to two miles at Sligo next time, it was unsurprising that he found himself uncompetitive and slightly outpaced over that sort of trip and his next effort at Roscommon was similar to his previous outing, where he was dropped right out before making belated inroads to the main players on the final circuit.
Last time out at Galway, the son of Yeats was in quite a deep maiden hurdle against several useful types and although he never really troubled the main three (all rated in the 120’s), he kept on well to finish a respectable fourth, easily punching above his rating of just 104.
Since that fine run, the form has been boosted by the eighth home, Shoda, winning at Downpatrick yesterday, and even though the assessor has taken the trouble to adjust his rating to 111, he still should be competitive off that sort of mark on his first attempt in handicap company back up to three miles.
