DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

FRIDAY AUGUST 14

5.58 NEWBURY

STRATOCRACY arrives here having run with a degree of encouragement in a competitive contest at York last time out and another positive display looks on the cards based on that performance and his overall record at today’s track.

Keeping on well in the closing stages on the Knavesmire, the son of Inns Of Court finished a close-up third to record his best speed figure for some time and with the winner, Johnny Concrete, going on to score again since, the form looks solid.

Previously, the five-year-old was also involved in a race here where the likes of Huscal, Commander Of Life and Best Rate have all won since and having scored over today’s C&D in the past, everything adds up for him to make a bold bid on his return to the Berkshire venue.

STRATOCRACY – 1-point each-way@5-1

7.10 CORK

Joseph O’Brien has had a stellar season, particularly with fillies such as Thundering On, Johanna Walsh, Sindria and Star Performer all winning at pattern level and the same theme can continue here with NYRA, who has shaped well on all three starts since joining new connections.

The four-year-old filly made a bright start from her new base when a creditable fourth behind the smart Purview at The Curragh and her two subsequent runs have gone a long way to improve her stock.

There was no shame in just getting outrun in the closing stages by the rapidly-improving Sparan Nua over today’s C&D two starts ago and it was only the drop back in trip to 1m2f that caught her out against two sharper fillies back at the Kildare venue a month ago.

Closely matched with Bosphorus Rose on her previous effort at the Mallow venue, Paddy Towmey’s filly comes across as being a bigger threat than the slightly disappointing Amelia Earhart, who has regressed since winning the Cheshire Oaks, but all things being equal, Nyra has a profile to suggest she should run her race and she rates rock solid each-way material at her morning odds.
