There are plenty with claims in this wide open-looking 6f sprint handicap but a chance is taken on NOUVEL ESPOIR winning at today’s track for the second time following on from his useful performance at The Curragh on his latest outing.
Draw 15 of 15 at the Kildare venue, it soon became apparent at halfway he was on the wrong side of the track but even allowing for the bias favouring those positioned over towards the far side, he managed to work himself form last place to finish a very creditable third.
Unsurprisingly running fastest final three furlongs, James Barcoe’s inmate left the impression he was easily the best horse in the field and the fact he is allowed to run here off a 3lb lower mark is an opportunity he has the ability to seize.
Moreover, on the two times he has lined up here at the Mallow venue, he has performed to a decent level, winning once and finishing a creditable fourth on his most recent visit, and providing he ends up being on the right side of the draw today (stall 18 towards the near side), the six-year-old can easily outrun his 14-1 quotes.

Bintaryana ran out a convincing winner over tonight’s C&D last time and it is easy to fashion a case for her winning again but based on his effort behind William Knight’s inmate, there is simply no way AUGUSTUS GLOOP can be over three times her price and he deserves to be played accordingly.
A shade tardy out of gates at the Sunbury venue, James Fanshawe’s chestnut found himself in an uncompromising position turning for home but from that point he really began to make huge inroads to the main players and by the time he had hit the line, he was only a length behind the eventual winner.
His closing sectionals of 34.0 compared to Bintaryana’s 34.5 tells its own tale and in tonight’s smaller field, the theory of him being closer to his main market rival throughout should ensure there won’t be too much between them on their rematch.
