DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 29

3.45 SEDGEFIELD

Willie Mullins has thrown a massive spanner in the works sending over Whitewinewednesday and while there is every chance she may make a mockery of her current handicap mark, the safer option, especially at the prices, looks to be previous C&D winner, ZAMOND.

Admittedly, the ten-year-old is rather limited and exposed but he did win this race last season, and he arrives here in decent shape in his bid to retain his crown.

Donald McCain’s inmate certainly travelled like the best horse in the race at Bangor last time but for some reason he didn’t get home as well as a couple of his higher-rated stable companions from the back of the second last.

That said, it was another useful effort on the data to add to plenty of other solid speed figures in recent times and he looks a reasonable each-way play for one who always seems to run his race.

ZAMOND – 1-point each-way@9-2

3.55 CORK

A complex affair with so many different permutations but MANTON BAY comes across as being more reliable than most and he should prove good enough to make the frame at the very least.

Although yet to race at pattern level, coming from a background of well-run, big-field handicaps can never be classed as a bad thing and his last two instalments at The Curragh points towards him having a crack at some black type.

No match for the massively improving Loughrea at the Kildare venue two starts ago, he did, however, have the Cambridgeshire winner, Pierre Royal, four lengths back in third and on his return to the same venue last time out, he ran a good deal better than the bare result suggested.

Trapped in a pocket turning for home, David Marnane’s gelding couldn’t get out for love nor money and in the end, he had to settle for a role just outside of the money.

Once again, he had Pierre Royal well beaten in behind him 16 days ago and he is entitled to plenty of respect despite seemingly having a bit to find on the ratings with some of the main players.

MANTON BAY – ½ point each-way@8-1 (four places)
