DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
TUESDAY OCTOBER 13
3.39 LEICESTER
FENLANDER had rather lost his way until rebounding in the right direction over today’s C&D last time out and with his draw in stall two probably not a bad place to be based on the action that took place here last week, Olly Williams’ inmate looks massively overpriced on his return visit.
The five-year-old was in terrific form earlier in the season when in the care of Pam Sly, rattling off a hat trick in the space of a month and with two of those victories coming over today’s C&D, it probably shouldn’t have been a massive surprise that his upturn in fortunes came courtesy of returning to his happy stomping ground.
Looking at the results here seven days ago, it was noticeable that all five winners raced over towards the far side rail – favouring the low numbers – and providing the straight track rides in a similar fashion today, the Territories gelding will hopefully better positioned than some of his more fancied rivals.
FENLANDER – ½ point each-way@10-1 (five places)
4.52 SOUTHWELL
WINSTON’S OATH can be rated a good bit better than his bare winning margin suggests at Fontwell last time out and James Owen’s gelding receives the confident vote to press home that viewpoint while still allowed to race at this level.
The four-year-old had offered encouraging signs on his previous start at the Sussex venue in the first-time visor and well backed to go one place better on his return visit, he duly obliged despite making a complete Horlicks of the second last.
Indeed, had he not lost valuable momentum at a crucial he would have won even more easily than he eventually did, and it was a performance to suggest he remains miles clear of the current assessor.
Obviously, the son of Churchill has now got to prove himself away from a track where he has struck up a nice repour, but it is not as if today’s flat circuit is in any way controversial and he should have way too much boot for this sort of opposition.
WINSTON’S OATH – 2-points win@6-4
