DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
MONDAY OCTOBER 19
2.53 PONTEFRACT
This race looks to have been the target for SILVERELLA for quite some time and Marcus Tregoning’s filly has the requisite attributes to execute the plan.
As the saying goes, “it’s no good getting any older unless you are getting any wiser”, and that sentiment pays tribute to the fact the Whitsbury handler thought about getting his filly acquainted to today’s venue following on from her victory at Goodwood previously.
A shock 14-1 winner at the Sussex venue, she duly justified her far more cramped odds over the C&D a month later and with her body of work on the speed figures already suggesting she is an above-average juvenile, only a modest run through from stall 7 has the potential to derail her bid to gain valuable black type.
SILVERELLA – 1-point win@7-2
5.10 GOWRAN
LORD AUS just narrowly failed in his bid to run down the useful Count Bezukhov in a decent handicap at Listowel last time out but it was another step in the right direction for Johnny Murtagh’s gelding and he rates a confident choice to make amends in a race that looks a little less spicy on paper.
Unlike some of his previous efforts, the son of Australia was held up in the rear at the Kerry venue, a tactic which, in itself, is a pretty poor choice, and as a result, he ended up having make up a huge amount of ground in the latter stages.
To his great credit, he almost pulled off the unlikely feat and it was a performance, which was also very good on the clock, right up there with his victory earlier in the season at Limerick.
Clearly very useful, the only time he hasn’t featured so far this season was when he got no luck whatsoever at Roscommon two starts ago but with that effort now banished to history, he can end his campaign on a high.
LORD AUS – 1-point win@7-2
5.15 WOLVERHAMPTON
CHANTELLE ran extremely well considering she was handed a poor draw over today’s C&D last time out and despite Sir Mark Prescott’s filly only faring better to the tune of one stall position on her return visit, she is still worth a small interest in her bid to overcome the impost.
A wide draw over the seven-furlong trip at the Dunstall circuit is renown for providing horses and jockeys with plenty to think about and even though the decision to drop her out towards the rear of the field was the sensible option, it meant she ended up challenging widest of all around the home bend and down the straight.
Considering the amount of ground she forfeited, to get beaten only two lengths was a fantastic effort under the circumstances and it is worth pointing out she was only a length behind one of today’s leading fancies, Powder Monkey who, in contrast, got the perfect tow into the race around the inside.
Clearly a better horse than Powder Monkey based on the evidence witnessed 14 days ago, she will obviously need a slightly more smoother passage this time around to confirm that view but she does have enough quality and C&D form to potentially defy stall 10 and she makes plenty of each-way appeal with the firms who are offering four places in the place terms.
CHANTELLE – 1-point each-way@5-1 (four places)
