DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 29

2.45 CORK

Amicitia, arriving here as the only last-time-out winner, was always likely to be a popular choice, but based on the evidence of the Navan race she won, it’s not a forgone conclusion she can uphold form with WINTER’S BREATH (best price 7-2) and Willie McCreery’s filly rates the value call at the prices.

Having her first run in a handicap following three mildly promising efforts in seven-furlong maidens, the daughter of Caravaggio was unsurprisingly outpaced after a slow beginning at the Meath venue, but it was noticeable how much ground she made up in the final two-furlongs, so much so, she eventually finished a respectable fifth.

Given her backend work 24 days ago (on the slowest part of the track), it is safe to draw to the conclusion today’s extra furlong will aid her cause and being one of the few in the field with the potentially of more to come, she makes a reasonable amount of appeal as a betting proposition.

WINTER’S BREATH – 1-point win@7-2

4.07 SEDGEFIELD

JET OF DREAMS (best price 5-1) understandably found life a little too hot for his liking over hurdles last week, but that effort should have served the purpose of putting a nice edge on his preparations to land this prize for successive seasons.

Warren Greatrex’s inmate had the misfortune to bump into the progressive mare, Centura, a couple of times over fences this summer, and he thoroughly deserved a pause in proceedings until rejoining the fray at Warwick.

Although no match for the likes of in-form pair, Hamlet’s Night and Beau Quali at the Midland venue, he kept on well enough in the latter stages to suggest he remains to decent shape and with a return to less frantic pace a welcome addition, the consistent seven-year-old can add to his series of fine results.

JET OF DREAMS – 1-point each-way@5-1 (three places)

7.00 NEWCASTLE

Quite a few unknown quantities in this seven-furlong nursery, none more so than THANOS (best price 4-1), and Harry Charlton’s inmate is worth taking a chance on off what appears a very workable opening handicap mark.

The Lope  Y Fernandez colt has only shown glimpses of ability on his first three starts so far to date but on his latest outing at Kempton, there was a good deal more promise in his performance than first meets the eye.

Dropped right out of the back door at the Sunbury venue, he was noted doing some sterling late work in the closing stages just on the edge of the camera and although he ended up being beaten 10 lengths, it was not a bad effort in the context of what he faces here tonight.

Since that race a month ago, the likes of Monarch’s Gold, Wedonttellies and Hypnotised have all gone on to suggest it was an above-average novice event and with connections having found a weak-looking contest for him over a more favourable extra furlong, the long trip up north could well be worthwhile.

THANOS – 1-point win@4-1
