DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 1
3.43 CATTERICK
FABULEUX DU CLOS (best price 12-1) is very much on the back nine of his career, but he is lightly raced, and he showed at Carlisle last time out he may not be a busted flush just yet.
Sent off 100-1 in a maiden that contained several well-regarded sorts, Simon West’s inmate was understandably unable to match the legs of the two three-year-olds who fought out the finish, but he did stay on noticeably well from three out and to end up only getting beaten seven lengths was a fair effort for a horse rated just 52.
A dual winner over hurdles over 2m4f on heavy ground and three miles respectively, today’s step up to two miles should play more into his strengths and against rivals more compatible to what he faced last time out, the 10-year-old might be able to surprise a few of the more fancied horses.
FABULEUX DU CLOS – ½ point each-way@12-1
7.00 KEMPTON
The final of the London Mile Series won by Sky Safari here 25 days ago was noted for its useful speed figure and COGITATE (best price 7-2), having run better than the bare form suggests, rates a strong choice to prove more competitive on his return visit.
Drawn in stall 12 of 14 at the Sunbury track, Charles Hills’ inmate was taken back with the view of working his way through the field but as events panned out, he was just too far out of his ground to make any impact at the business end.
He did, however, come home with a reasonable amount of purpose and now finding himself back among class 4 company since the last time he scored at Salisbury way back in May, the four-year-old is fancied to take advantage of the drop in grade from a much more favourable draw.
COGITATE – 1-point win@7-2
