DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING

THURSDAY OCTOBER 2

3.50 SALISBURY

PILU (best price 11-4) was chalked up as the outsider of the field by most bookmakers yesterday (6-1 top price), which made no sense and despite the market correcting itself, so Roger Teal’s inmate sits in a more realistic position as second favourite, he still makes plenty of appeal at the revised odds.

There are many things to admire about the son of Coulsty’s two victories so far to date, but it is mainly his attitude when faced with two different challenges which have impressed the most.

Firstly, at Bath, he overcame a slow beginning and poor track position to score going away and secondly, over today’s C&D, he switched up tactics by making all the running for a comfortable success.

Moreover, his latest effort produced a very smart speed figure – which is easily the pick of the four runners here today – and with Jason Watson likely to be given license to ride the race whoever he sees fit, his mount can adapt and retain his unbeaten record.

NIGHTSINWHITESATIN (best price 9-1) can be the master of her own downfall, as she proved at Doncaster last time out, but her trait of being a little tardy leaving the gates hasn’t prevented her from winning twice this season and with one of those victories coming over today’s C&D, Ed Bethell’s grey might not be a bad option in the final of this series.

As proved to be the case on many occasions at the St Leger festival on Town Moor, making ground from the rear was nigh on an impossible task, so under the circumstances, she did well to finish as close to the main players as she did.

Prior to that praiseworthy effort, the daughter of Dark Angel rattled off a quick-fire double here and at Newbury in mid-summer and with the data pointing towards the one over the C&D on softish ground being easily the pick of the pair, a repeat of something similar should see her name towards the top when the credits are rolling.
