DAILY RACING PREVIEW BY ANDY HOLDING
SUNDAY DECEMBER 14
1.40 CARLISLE
The Irish went very close to landing this prize last year when D Art D Art was narrowly touched off and they look to have another strong contender in a bid to go one place better in the shape of Letos.
Anthony Mullins’ inmate won with a good deal of authority at Navan last time out and he looks to have the size and scope for further improvement, but he does have his stamina to prove and at more rewarding odds, confirmed stayer NAB WOOD (best price 9-2) makes far more appeal the morning odds.
The race he ran well in last time out at Haydock is renowned for being strong form for the rest of the season and this year’s renewal has already begun to follow the narrative with tenth-placed, Titan Discovery, winning at Cheltenham on Friday (Joyeux Machin also ran well at Doncaster yesterday).
On the retreat when blundering at the second last, Nicky Richards’ inmate, however, did kept on quite well in the closing stages to finish a respectable sixth and with today’s ground more in-keeping with his overall profile (22121 on soft ground), he should provide his supporters with a decent spin.
NAB WOOD – 1-point win@9-2
1.50 NAVAN
May Call You Back arrives here in decent shape following two recent victories, but it is debateable she has better form than BATTLE OF RIDGEWAY (best price 6-1) and at the prices, the latter makes far more appeal.
Martin Brassil’s inmate was thrown into the lion’s den at Cheltenham last time out and although he came up a little short on the day, it is easy to make a case out for his effort in finishing a close-up third being a career high
Not only was the time figure of the race in question good, the winner, Triple Trade, and fourth, Glengouly, both went on to advertise the form in no uncertain terms back at Prestbury Park yesterday and with today’s testing conditions set to suit him more than most, the son of Califet rates a solid each-way alternative to the favourite.
BATTLE OF RIDGEWAY – 1-point each-way@6-1 (four places)
